Pulwama, Apr 19 (KNO): In a significant political development, a former District Development Council (DDC) member from Pulwama, on Friday joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the presence of the party president Mehbooba Mufti here. As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Javid Rahim Bhat, who was previously associated with the National Conference, was warmly welcomed into the party by Mehbooba Mufti, along with other senior leaders including Waheed ur Rehman Para, Zahoor Ahmad Mir and Syed Bari Andrabi. Addressing reporters on the occasion, Mehbooba urged the people to heavily participate in the upcoming elections and not boycott the polls. “These elections are crucial for responding to the actions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which have targeted the dignity, identity and resources of Jammu and Kashmir,” she said. Mufti said the upcoming Lok Sabha election transcends basic developmental issues like roads, water and electricity. “Instead, it is a critical battle for preserving the dignity, identity, land and resources of the region, particularly in the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370,” she said. The PDP chief criticised attempts to muzzle voices and said the preservation of Kashmiri identity and dignity is paramount. Mehbooba highlighted the historical significance of past governance under former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, saying relief measures and development initiatives were undertaken during his tenure—(KNO)
